Walton Donuts

What: Raised Chocolate, Red Velvet
Where: Denver, CO
When: Monday, March 13th 2017

On our last day in Denver we got to try a new donut place but we weren't quite prepared for it. Our first choice was closed, so I picked Walton's off a list without too much thought because it also said it had breakfast sandwiches, but they did not. They did have really good classic donuts. I had the red velvet and hubby had the raised chocolate and I definitely thought that the raised chocolate was better (4.5/5). Excellent frosting flavor and perfect donut. The red velvet was good too (3/5), very moist just not as classically good as the raised donut. Denver BFF had a filled donut and as you can see from the picture it was FILLED.

Omaha Boat, Sports & Travel Show

This February we went to the Omaha Boat, Sports & Travel Show, but it wasn't as crazy as the one in North Dakota. Maybe because we've been looking at travel trailers A LOT recently, but we just weren't blown away by as much. Also, it was much more crowded so you didn't get to really look into all the trailers and fifth wheels and motorhomes with the crowds coming and going.
The best part of the trip was probably that we got free tickets from one of the local RV dealers the weekend before when we were looking on their lot for a travel trailer. The second best part may have been all the travel brochures we picked up! So many places to visit!

Bottles & Barrels Brewery

Hubby wants to start reviewing breweries and beer, so I'm gonna leave this one for him! Let's see if I can get him using my computer, he's a little old fashioned.

Avoca Quackoff

This year hubby got switched from a Tues-Sat schedule to a Mon-Thurs 4 by 10 schedule and his first Saturday off was the day of the Avoca Quackoff! I was so excited to get to go to the Quackoff this year. It is an annual fundraiser for the Avoca fire department and this was the 37th year. The town of Avoca is about 30-45 minutes east of Lincoln and normally has a population of 242. For the Quackoff, that may quadruple. There are party buses that leave from Omaha and Lincoln to bring people in. We drove out there with a small cooler and quickly realized we didn't do it right. Why didn't we bring our fire pit? (Seriously, some people brought fire pits to sit around! Looked so warm and cozy).

You may still be wondering what the Quackoff is anyways. It's a giant duck race! You pay $25 to enter the race, which includes a duck rental. Once you register, you get a number (they went into the 300s!) and the races began around 1pm. When it was your number range, you got a duck from the duck truck and went into the arena. You couldn't touch the duck while it was racing, but you could definitely race after it and encourage it to go the right way. If you won your heat, you got an orange sticker and then came back in the next round.
While people were racing, we may have been enjoying some beverages from our backpack. I also got to pet a duck! And talk to a lot of people around us who came from all over to see the ducks. Oh, I almost forgot, there was an auction caller there calling the races! Seriously, one of the best small town events we've been to.

The Habit

What: Plain Jane, The Habit, Carbon
Where: Denver, CO
When: Saturday, March 11th 2017

You guys, I haven't done a donut review in FOREVER. Sorry! I dropped the ball this spring for sure. We've been super busy, news of what's in the works to come.
Donuts first! We went to Denver for spring break and to see some very old friends from middle school, one of which lives in Denver and one of which was coming to see her in-laws in Denver. Hubby did some research and found The Habit, a donut and whiskey place. I love donut/bars because they are open much nicer hours! In fact, we went there quite late after a full day of touristy stuff.

Hubby and I split the Carbon, described as "Dark chocolate espresso cremeux filling, espresso glaze, white chocolate drizzle" on their website. It was super decadent and rich, if not a little dry at the end (I mean, we did buy it around 9:30pm). BFF #1 got the Habit and had it finished before we got back in the car. The Habit is obviously their flagship donut and is a raspberry and blueberry concoction. BFF #2 got the Plain Jane, a simple cinnamon and sugar donut that was probably my favorite. Super moist and perfect flavor. I say 3.5/5 for Carbon, ?/5 for the Habit and 4/5 for Plain Jane.
