It's National Donut Day!

Hubby and I celebrated by getting up early (for us...) to go on a quick donut tour of our hometown. We hit three places and got a selection of donuts to try throughout the day. Look for reviews in the next couple of weeks! How are you celebrating National Donut Day???

Best Donut Day ever!

This year's donut day just went from the worst (did I tell you I've had a stomach bug since Wednesday and can just now eat plain cereal? No donuts for me this year!) to the best with this list from Time!
Obviously, I love lists of things. Especially ones that are presented on one website and not as click bait.
And this list has donuts and beer! And my sister's beer creation! Beeramisu! I haven't gotten to try it yet, but maybe in July I will get some.

If you're ever in Philly, go visit! Ramona Susan's Bake Shop, 1255 Marlborough St, Fishtown.

It's National Donut Day!

How are you celebrating???

I don't know if I can top last year, but this year there will be homemade donuts!

National Donut Day, in November???

Guys, I have to admit, I had no idea today was National Donut Day. I mean, to me, National Donut Day is the first Friday in June. And I totally celebrated my heart out this year. I don't know if my body can handle another donut day.

I did a quick google search, and am glad to report that this second donut day isn't very legit. It may have been made up by a guy who wanted to create a website with food holidays. I'm not even joking.

Huffington Post article.

I don't see any deals for it either. I call foul. National Donut Day is in June. Period.

National Donut Weekend!

I know, it's National Donut DAY, but it turned into a whole weekend of fun! I figured I should recap it in all it's amazingness so you guys can be jealous.

Friday was actual National Donut Day and my husband and I spent the morning collecting donuts for free (or super cheap).

After work on Friday we had some friends over in two waves for Donut Happy Hour and tried out some donut themed cocktails.

Saturday started with a painting class at The Corky Canvas with some girlfriends. We got mimosas and donuts and were led through the steps to create this masterpiece:

Later on Saturday we met some friends and family at my favorite state park for a bbq. I tried out these campfire eclairs from the blog Happy Money Saver and they failed pretty miserably. But my friends were great sports about it and we experimented with different ways of cooking the crescent roll dough and just straight up grilling the donuts I brough.

And then this morning I got to live my dream of setting up a "Make Your Own Donut" Bar for a church group lunch. I brought some donuts that I froze on Friday plus frosings and glazes and toppings for everyone to personalize their own dream donut. It was delicious!

Very full weekend and now I need to go for a run. Work off all this sugar!

National Donut Day Celebrations

Gotta start the day with my donut socks!
Hot and fresh from LaMar's!

It was the best LaMar's I've ever had!

Apple fritter from Randy's, althogh my brother pointed out this wasn't actually a donut.

Not the biggest selection because we may have slept in a little bit.

Dozens of glazed from Russ's for celerations with friends and family today and tomorrow.

Starting donut happy hour!

Boston Creme Pie drink with donut vodka, vanilla ice cream and chocolate drizzle.

A friend hooked me up with a lovely bottle of this stuff.

A late friend showed up to help finish some donuts and remind us that vodka goes perfectly with cranberry juice. Delicious!

And ending with a fun picture from the Olathe, KS police department.

Happy Donut Day everyone!

ps - I had tried to collect pictures of my family with their favorite donuts, but I didn't get them collected in time so they may have to wait till next week to get up here. Sorry for the delay!

National Donut Day is coming up!

How is everyone planning to spend their National Donut Day this Friday? I'm planning a special treat for my 2 year blogiversary so watch for a special Saturday update this week! In honor of the day, Entenmann's is debuting a new patriotic donut and there are specials and deals going on all over the place!

As for free donuts, check out Dunkin Donuts (with beverage purchase), Krispy Kreme, LaMar's (they even have a countdown on their website to Friday!), or Shipley Do-Nuts for some yumminess!

And for the local favorites, after some brief research:
Doughnut Plant in NYC isn't doing anything (but they are now doing bike deliveries if you just want to stay in your pjs)
Dough is doing something, but wasn't sure what
The Doughnut Hole in Lincoln is doing a painting class with The Corky Canvas
Federal Donuts in Philly is bringing back a retired fancy donut based on Twitter voting
Dottie's Donuts in Philly will hopefully get back to me soon if they have any specials going on.

Anyone know of any other specials or deals?

Happy National Donut Day!

The first Friday in June has been dubbed the National Donut Day as an old throwback to honor the women working for the Salvation Army.

And what a glorious holiday it is! Just around me in Nebraska grocery stores are having major donut sales and Lamar's is giving away free donuts tomorrow morning! I will definitely be taking advantage of some of the specials, I have yet to try Lamar's!

I urge you guys all to go get a donut to celebrate, Krispy Kreme and Dunkin Donuts are both participating with free donut offers. Post comments with your own donut reviews or what you did to celebrate National Donut Day!

This morning I got some from Russ's, another local grocery store here, on my way to work. I will post my review tomorrow. When I figure out how to upload pictures I took on my phone because I thought I didn't have my camera, when in reality I did. Food blogging is tough!

And yes, I was reunited with my netbook today. So I promise pictures this weekend! For now I leave you with a comic from a donut shop in San Francisco:
