Hurt's Donut with Boiler Room Brewery

A couple weeks ago Hurt's did a special donut with the brewery located in the basement of their building. Saw it on facebook, headed up.

But this is what I remember about the experience: the two women in front of me ordering mixed dozens as sloooooow as humanly possible. Seriously, woman #1 took at least 5-10 minutes. Was woman #2 figuring out what she wanted in that time? Nope! She took just as long to walk back and forth in front of the two giant display cases (because Hurt's has a bazillion options).

I couldn't even tell you what kind of donut it was, but it was the one on the right. And you can see the orange peel in the glaze. It was pretty good though. I look forward to more collaborations!

Explore Valentine

One thing Hubby and I keep talking about is making it out to Cherry County. Cherry County is larger than the state of Connecticut! And it has one of the lowest populations as well. Just one big empty county.

Now that our camping plans fell through for this weekend, maybe we'll take the new ride out to Valentine!

You guys, I totally forgot about this review! It's from last July when Hubby and I went to McCook as part of our Nebraska Passport summer travels. But I don't remember the donut! So this is definitely a non review...

Catalina 243RBS

You guys, we bought a trailer! It's 27'11" long and has a front bedroom and a fireplace in it! Even has some storage too, which is nice in something less than 30'.

We went with a Catalina because we loved the fireplace and that the wardrobes next to the bed didn't go all the way down so that we have those awesome ledges to use as bookshelves!



There is also a breakfast bar in the kitchen area, we almost have too much seating! It was so hard to pick out a floorplan that had everything we wanted (must haves: separate bedroom with real door, couch, shorter than 30' hitch to bumper, nice to have: shower instead of tub, storage, not a pass thru bathroom, lots of windows by the couch).

Omaha Donut Shootout 2017

This year's Donut Shootout was a total let down. :-( I did like the donuts and we go to try some new bakeries, but they changed some policies this year and we left very disappointed.

The official time on the tickets was 10-2pm on a Sunday and we got to the area around 11. This year you could only start at a certain bar so we got turned away from the first bar we stopped at. Waited in line at the main bar to get our wrist bands and then went to the third bar. Had some donuts and then moved on to the first bar. They just got a second delivery of LaMar's that were nice and fresh. Onto the 3rd bar. It was approximately 12 at this point and the third bar had already run out of donuts and put cleaned up the area where they were giving out donuts. Two hours before the event was supposed to end! I was not pleased and I don't think I was the only one from the response I got at the main bar when I went to complain and was immediately told who to email for a refund.

Then we went to walk around the area because it is such a cute area. But since it was a Sunday this year, none of the stores were open! So they couldn't share in the increased business with the increase in foot traffic! Next year we'll just use your $17 to buy a dozen fancy donuts somewhere else!

Soaker Tub in a 5th Wheel?!

If you haven't been in a fifth wheel recently, you should check them out. Hands down the fanciest camper you can buy. I mean, just look at that price tag!

The trailer show was a little crazy because there were so many people there but I insisted on checking out the soaking tub. It was quite crowded, so sorry about the bad pictures. Someone pointed out later though, if your water heater is only a 6 gallon on demand propane heater, how do you fill a tub with enough warm water to actually take a bath??

Also, not pictured is a second sink, and a full shower. Pretty big bathroom for a trailer!

Stan's Bakery

I forgot about this review! My apologies to anyone who was disappointed in just getting pictures of a donut!

We got this lovely donut from a gas station near Platte River State Park when we stayed out there in February. It wasn't the worst gas station donut, but it wasn't the best. I always wonder how often the donuts get delivered at gas stations and if you're really getting the best example of the bakery's work. Maybe I'll make it up to you by actually going to Stan's some day.

Meadowlark take 2

We headed back to Platte River State Park for our 2nd annual Valentine's Day celebration and it was so nice and relaxing. I don't think it was quite as warm this year as last year, and we didn't do a ton of hiking, but we did get to use the outdoor grill!

Our favorite special treat, bacon wrapped asparagus!


Platte is working on a paved walkway all around the lake, including little spots that may become picnic areas in the summer. It looked very nice with some little waterfalls into a series of ponds before the water flows into the larger lake where you can paddle boat in the summer.
